Visit to Flight Simulator in Perth
Rosco is not the only person in Perth building something quite unique in his workshop and once he saw a story on our local Channel 7 Today Tonight program, he decided he had to investigate further.
Rosco went and met Gwyn Perrett who with the help of a lot of friends has built a full size Boeing 737 flight simulator in his shed. This simulator is not just for fun it is also being used to help raise money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service in WA. Below is the story that appeared on Channel 7’s Today Tonight on 29th September.
WorldFlight is a virtual round the world flight for charity held in the first week of November each year. Since its inception in 2000 Australian crews have raised over $200,000 for The Australian Royal Flying Doctor Service. These funds have been directed to specific projects at the RFDS including Fly Around Clinics, Avionics and Navigation Equipment for their Pilatus PC12 aircraft. Each year more and more Fixed Based Simulators join in the round the world flight, each of them raising money for their own elected charity.
Since WorldFlight started in 2000 we have had cockpit simulators from Ireland, Scotland, England, Germany, Austria, Canada and the USA accompany the Australian teams on the fundraising flights. Last year WorldFlight Perth joined the list of official crews and raised over $6000 flying Flightcity Simulation Centre’s B777 through a combination of pilot contributions and public donations. Not a bad effort first time out, so this year they are aiming for similar or better so please support them and give generously.
